You can readily buy five-speed belt-drive garden-tractor transaxles with integral differential, especially in the surplus market. one would work very nicely in a go-kart.. They sell them, they’re called shifter karts. they are really fun. but it is very hard to just make one, unless you want a kit. the easiest way would be using like a dirt bike powertrain and just build mounts for it on a gokart chassis.. For most go kart enthusiasts, it is already a known fact that the transmission plays a very important role in the mechanism of the go kart. because of the transmission system, the driver gets to manage the speed of the kart..
I didn't want to go out and buy a manual transmission from a motorcycle. i want to make a transmission for my go-kart. from what i have heard, a bicycle derailleur system would just break under the stress..
